Set of Two Owens-Illinois Depression Glass Diagonally Ribbed Forest Green Spice Shaker Bottles with Metal Lids Vintage Kitchenware Tableware

Here is a vibrant pair of collectible vintage forest green glass spice shaker bottles with their original metal lids from the Depression Era. This set was crafted by Owens-Illinois from Toledo, Ohio in the 1930s-1940s and both bottles are stamped on the bottom with their makers mark. The bottles are uniquely ribbed on the diagonal with a flat spot for a label. Can be used for a multitude of spices for example salt and pepper or cinnamon and sugar, whatever your taste may be; or simply as beautiful display pieces in your kitchen. Each shaker measures 4.5 inches in height by 2.25 inches in diameter.

Condition: This pair of spice jars are in excellent vintage condition with evidence of wear, some minor imperfections which are characteristic of the age of this piece (bubbles in the glass.) The perforated metal lids are intact; however they show some patina which is to be expected and there are minor dents in both lids. Please refer to the pictures as they are a part of the description. If you have any concerns about the condition or you require more detail I can provide additional photographs on request.

Some background info on the Owens-Illinois Glass Company:

Founded in 1903 in Ohio by Michael J. Owens, inventor of the automatic bottle-making machine. Owens-Illinois Glass Company was the result of the 1929 merger between two glass-making giants of the industry: Owens Bottle Company (Toledo, OH ā€“ predecessor Toledo Glass Company began operation in 1896) and Illinois Glass Company (based in Alton, Illinois, with glass production dating from 1873).

Formerly headquartered at Toledo, OH; now based at Perrysburg, OH, Owens-Illinois, Inc. had (and has) many glass manufacturing locations worldwide. Known as Owens-Illinois, Inc. since 1965, (officially known as just ā€œO-Iā€ since 2005), this corporation is currently (2022) the largest manufacturer of glass containers in the world.

Frequently Asked Questions

Care instructions

Most vintage and antique glassware should be hand washed only and not in the dishwasher; especially any pieces with graphics or colourful patterns, for example Pyrex, Fire King, Glasbake, Corelle, drinkware, etc. Dishwashers can dull the finish on these unique pieces and cause premature wear to the surface and patterns or cause what is known as DWD or Dishwasher Damage which is irreversible. It's always better to be safe and wash by hand if you can.

Add some dish washing liquid into a sink or basin and add warm water. Placing a towel underneath can help to avoid breakage. It is best to use a damp cloth for any pieces with hand-painted decorations to preserve the art as even regular hand-washing can degrade these over time.

Does your store offer local pick-ups?

Absolutely! If you would like to coordinate a local pick-up in Durham Region you may either purchase the items and send a note after the fact to request a pick-up and we will then refund your shipping costs; or you can send a message prior to the order to request the local pick-up and we can remove the shipping costs on the items you wish to purchase. Ordering the items immediately will guarantee availability; this is the ideal method to ensure your selection(s) are not purchased by someone else in the interim, in case we do not respond to your inquiry soon enough (we will respond within 24 hours; however, we may not be available at the exact moment of your message)
