Tauno Wirkkala Humppila Art Glass Bowl – Finnish Ice Glass, Mid Century Modern Decor

$89.13

A striking example of mid-century Scandinavian design, this “Revontulet” art glass bowl by Tauno Wirkkala for Humppila Glass captures the ethereal beauty of the Northern Lights. Named after the Finnish word for Aurora Borealis, this piece evokes both the shimmer of light across the sky and the raw, crystalline textures of ice.

The exterior is sculpted with dramatic, jagged vertical forms—reminiscent of frozen shards or aurora waves rising skyward—while the interior remains smooth and polished, creating a beautiful contrast of texture and light. This interplay gives the bowl a luminous, almost glowing presence when displayed.

A true statement piece, this bowl embodies the mid-century modern ethos of bringing the natural world indoors. Whether styled as a centrepiece or displayed as art glass, it offers a quiet yet powerful connection to Nordic landscapes and design heritage. A natural fit for the refined, light-filled aesthetic of Crystalline Era Vintage.

Some more info on Humppila Glass:

"Humppila Glass was founded in Finland in 1952, by three brothers: Jonni, Martti and Olavi Helander, all former glassblowers at Nuutajarvi. In 1970 the company was bought by Rolf Alander. Designers at Humppila during the 1970's included Pertti Santalahti, Kai Blomqvist, Tauno Wirkkala, Henrik Koivula and Vesa Antikainen. Humppila took over the Kumela factory in 1979, and was itself taken over by Nuutajarvi in 1986. Tauno Wirkkala is the brother of famous Finnish designer Tapio Wirkkala."

US Tariff Update as of September 8, 2025:

De Minimis (Section 321/Duty Free) Entry into U.S. suspended as of Aug 29, 2025; carriers are working to provide a viable DDP-Duties Prepaid shipping solution, US shipping has been temporarily paused for the time-being until more information becomes available on how to proceed moving forward.

I will continue to monitor this fluid situation and provide updates as they become available.

Will I have to pay extra customs duties or import fees if I’m in the U.S.?

No — I ship with all duties prepaid (DDP) for U.S. customers. That means you will not receive surprise bills or added charges on delivery.

Many of the vintage pieces I offer were originally Made in the USA (Pyrex, Fire-King, Corning, Corelle, etc.), which qualify for duty-free re-entry under U.S. trade agreements. I clearly mark these items on customs forms and packaging.

Shipping costs include secure packaging and all necessary customs processing — so once you’ve checked out, you can relax knowing your piece will arrive safely, with everything already taken care of.
